She began knitting at an early age and looms were an integral part of the family environment. Candiss hand-dyes all of her warp yarns, one skein at a time, in a single spaghetti pot that she has been using for seventeen years.” There is no other way to do this. I can not get the color variation in large vats.” The dye sequence, dipping the skeins into the pot, rinsing and dying, is repeated with each color. After rinsing the silk in hot water, she wrings it through her prized Twentieth Century Maytag- one of her grandmother’s wedding gifts. Candiss now lives in Sedona and is inspired by the majesty of the red rock formations and the lush vegetation surrounding her home and studio, her designs display robust colors.
